Construction firm which was building collapsed Bhagalpur Bridge has multi

Gandhinagar: The construction company responsible for building the collapsed bridge in Bihar is the same company that is constructing two important bridges in Gujarat.

The under-construction four-lane bridge across the Ganga in Bhagalpur collapsed on Sunday, June 4th. The construction firm SP Singla Construction Pvt. Ltd. of Haryana which was building the collapsed bridge in Bihar is involved in constructing the Okha-Bet Dwarka Signature Bridge and the Dabhoi-Sinor-Malsar-S Road Narmada River Bridge in Gujarat.

Currently, construction work on both bridges is nearing completion, with plans for their inauguration in the coming days. In light of the bridge collapse in Bihar, concerns have been raised regarding the quality of bridges in Gujarat. There is a demand for these bridges to be inspected by a third-party expert team before their opening.

What is the SP Singla Construction Company?

SP Singla Constructions Pvt. Ltd. has been involved in the construction business for the past 27 years. Its current board members and directors are Sat Paul Singla, Prem Lata, Deepak Singla, Rohit Singla, and Nikita Gandhi. The company is registered at the Delhi Registrar's Office and has its corporate office in Haryana. It is a private, unlisted company classified as a ‘Company Limited by Share.’

Projects awarded to the company in Gujarat

In 2017, approval was granted for the Rs. 962 crore cable-stayed signature bridge project in Gujarat. The project involves constructing a 3.73 km, four-lane, 27.20 m-wide cable-stayed signature bridge that will connect Okha and Bet Dwarka. The bridge will have a 2.5-metre-wide footpath equipped with street lights. Solar panels will be installed above the sidewalk, generating 1 megawatt of power. The length of the bridge on the Okha side will be 209 metres, while on the Bet Dwarka side it will be 1101 metres. The length of the bridge portion will be 2.32 kilometres, with the middle section spanning 900 metres and adopting a cable-stayed design. The middle span, at 500 metres, will be the largest in India and will include two pylons and a 150-metre toll section. Additionally, there will be 13 spans on either side, each measuring 50 metres in length. Currently, the Okha-Bet Dwarka route can only be accessed by passenger boats, and the construction of this bridge will enhance tourism facilities.The details of the bridge over the Narmada River by the same company are as follows: The bridge has a length of 900m, an overall width of 15.65m, and a carriageway width of 11.00m. The approach road measures 1984m on the Malsar side and 577m on the Asa side. Additionally, there are three viaducts on the Malsar side approach road. The project cost for this bridge amounts to Rs. 165 crore. Furthermore, the project for an 11-kilometre-long elevator viaduct and stations for Surat Railway Metro Phase 1 has been approved for SP Singla Construction Company.

Among the bridges built by the company, Bihar leads with eight, followed by two in Jammu and Kashmir, and one each in Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and Maharashtra. Odisha has five bridges, Punjab has three, West Bengal has two, and Uttar Pradesh has one.
